X870E AERO X3D DARK WOOD is GIGABYTE’s new AM5 motherboard with two PCIe 5.0 slots

GIGABYTE has announced the X870E AERO X3D DARK WOOD, a new AM5 motherboard that adds a darker wood-themed finish to the company’s AERO lineup. The board is based on AMD’s X870E chipset and supports Ryzen 9000, Ryzen 8000, and Ryzen 7000 series processors. It follows the earlier X870E AERO X3D WOOD model , but shifts the design toward a darker color palette with wood texture panels and a leather pull tab on the M.2 heatsink.

Behind the styling, the board carries a fairly high-end feature set. GIGABYTE lists a 16+2+2 twin digital VRM design with 60A DrMOS stages, an 8-layer PCB, and 2x copper construction. The expansion layout includes one PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, a second PCIe 5.0 x16 slot running at x8, and a third PCIe 4.0 x16 slot running at x4.

Memory support includes four DDR5 DIMM slots with overclocking support of up to DDR5-9000, at least on supported kits from the QVL. Storage is handled by four M.2 slots, including two PCIe 5.0 x4 and two PCIe 4.0 x4, plus four SATA 6 Gb/s ports. GIGABYTE also promotes its X3D Turbo Mode 2.0, which it says can improve performance on Ryzen X3D processors by up to 25%, depending on the game.

Connectivity is also one of the key points here. The X870E AERO X3D DARK WOOD features dual USB4 ports at 40 Gbps, dual 5GbE LAN, Wi-Fi 7, HDMI, and support for DisplayPort Alt Mode over USB-C. On the DIY side, the board includes tool-free and quick-release features such as M.2 EZ-Latch Click, M.2 EZ-Latch Plus, WiFi EZ-Plug, and DriverBIOS, which is meant to simplify first-time network access.

Cooling hardware includes large VRM heatsinks, a direct-touch heatpipe, multiple M.2 thermal guards, and a full-coverage backplate. GIGABYTE says the PCB thermal plate improves thermal performance by 14%, while the M.2 cooling design can reduce SSD temperatures by up to 12°C in its internal testing.
The company has announced the board today, but it has not yet shared pricing or retail availability.
