Apple TV the trailer for Widow’s Bay, a new genre-bending series about a charming and quaint small town that’s probably cursed.

Matthew Rhys recently gave a chilling performance in Netflix’s ‘ ,’ and his next role looks like it could be similarly sinister.

Rhys stars in Widow’s Bay, a new Apple TV series that combines “genuine horror with character-driven comedy.”

Widow’s Bay premieres Wednesday, April 29 with two episodes, followed by weekly releases through June 17, including a special two-episode drop on May 27.

Apple just dropped the first trailer, which leans heavily into the creepy vibes, similar to forthcoming series Cape Fear from Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg.

In “Widow’s Bay,” something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis (Rhys) is desperate to revive his struggling community. There’s no Wi-Fi, spotty cellular reception and he must contend with superstitious locals who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don’t. They think he is soft and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination. Miraculously, he succeeds: tourists are finally coming. Unfortunately, the locals were right. After decades of calm, the old stories that seemed too ludicrous to be true start happening again.

I’m not typically a fan of shows or movies in the horror genre. Apple says Widow’s Bay is “genre-bending” though, and the trailer certainly has me intrigued.
