Modder reportedly boots Intel Core 9 273PQE Bartlett Lake-S into Windows on consumer Z790 board

The Bartlett Lake-S modding effort on Overclock.net has moved past BIOS POST. According to the latest update, Intel’s Core 9 273PQE has now reportedly booted into Windows on an ASUS Z790 board. That would be a clear step beyond the earlier milestone, where the chip was only shown reaching the AMI POST screen and correctly identifying itself in firmware.
After the modder said the BIOS had been rewritten with AI assistance and missing support pieces had been added. At that stage, the board could detect the CPU, but reports still said the system would stop before a usable OS boot. The new claim suggests the project has now moved past those roadblocks.

Intel’s official specification page lists the Core 9 273PQE as a 12-core, 24-thread processor with 12 Performance cores and no Efficient cores, up to 5.9 GHz boost, 36 MB cache, and 125 W processor base power. That makes it a rare recent Intel desktop-class part built around an all-P-core layout, even though Bartlett Lake-S was introduced for edge and embedded use rather than consumer desktop systems.
ASUS markets the Z790-AYW OC WIFI for 12th, 13th, and 14th Gen Intel Core processors, not Bartlett Lake-S, and earlier reporting showed board vendors were not planning mainstream desktop support for these chips. That is why the result is drawing attention







There is still a lot we do not know. A reported Windows boot is a much bigger milestone than POST, but it still does not answer questions about stability, device support, microcode behavior, or real benchmark performance. We can see that CPU-Z, AIDA64, and ASUS TurboV Core software all start and recognize the CPU. The modder also showed that the GPU is detected, which means we may soon see gaming tests on a proper non-industrial, non-workstation board with this 12 P-core CPU on Intel’s older platform.
It also raises the question of why Intel never enabled support for this CPU on mainstream Z, B, and H series motherboards, or why Bartlett Lake-S was limited to edge systems in the first place. With today’s coding and BIOS modding tools, there is only so much Intel can do to stop users from experimenting.
