Intel discontinues XeSS plugin for Unity

Intel has archived its official XeSS plugin for Unity, ending support for the project. The repository was switched to read-only on March 30, 2026, and Intel now says it will no longer provide development, maintenance, bug fixes, new releases, updates, or patch acceptance for the plugin.
Intel has attached a clear discontinuation notice to the repository, even though the project still includes Unity 6 patch files and instructions for HDRP integration. The latest public release listed is v2.0.5 from March 26, 2025, so Unity developers are now left with a frozen codebase unless they decide to fork it themselves.

Intel has recently updated the main XeSS SDK repository to support XeSS 3, while Intel’s Unreal Engine plugin also continues to receive updates, including a v3.0.1 release with XeSS SDK 3.0.0 support and Unreal Engine 5.7 support.
It’s not just Intel
AMD took a similar path, they are no longer releasing updated plugins for Unity. Their latest FSR SDK only mentions the Unreal Engine 5 plugin (with FSR 4 support), while the abandoned Unity plugin is still listing FSR 2 and hasn’t been updated in 5 years. NVIDIA DLSS, on the other hand, is integrated into the Unity engine through High Definition Render Pipeline, not as a standalone plugin. I’m not sure which version it supports, though.
