AYN Odin 3 now officially using Dragonwing Q8, but it’s not much of a problem since it has nearly the same specs (without modem)

AYN has changed the processor name on its Odin 3 product page. The Android-based gaming handheld is now listed with Qualcomm Dragonwing Q8 instead of Snapdragon 8 Elite , after Retro Handhelds reported that AYN was asked to correct the naming to avoid confusion. AYN’s current store page now uses Dragonwing Q8 branding across the product listing.
From Snapdragon to Dragonwing
Based on Qualcomm’s own materials, Dragonwing Q8 is part of the company’s IoT and embedded portfolio, while Snapdragon 8 Elite is the smartphone version of the same general platform family. Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Q-8750 lists an octa-core Oryon CPU, Adreno 8-series GPU, and up to 77 TOPS of AI performance, which puts it in the same class as Qualcomm’s flagship mobile silicon.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite lists the Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System, while the Dragonwing Q-8750 brief does not include any cellular modem section at all. This handheld does not use a modem, so it doesn’t change anything regarding that feature.

Retro Handhelds reports that an Odin 3 unit identifies its SoC as CQ8725S , described as a variant tied to Qualcomm’s Dragonwing Q8 family, and the site notes that AYN has already removed Snapdragon 8 Elite references from its pages.
It is hard to say whether this was AYN’s fault or Qualcomm’s, whether the chip was incorrectly labeled and marketed under the wrong name from the start, or whether the decision was made later. It is like selling a GeForce GPU under the RTX Pro brand, then only later realizing it does not support something rarely if ever used for that particular product.
The question is, how are buyers of Odin 3 feeling with this ‘name change’?
