DDU 18.1.5.1 makes NVIDIA Shader Cache cleanup optional as NVIDIA App adds Auto Shader Compilation

DDU update for NVIDIA users using Automatic Shader Compilation

NVIDIA Shader Cache is a local store of precompiled graphics shaders saved on your SSD or HDD, so games do not need to rebuild the same shader data every time. Worth noting that NVIDIA says damaged cache files can cause launch crashes, lower performance, or visual artifacts, and its own support page still points users to Display Driver Uninstaller for shader-cache-only cleanup when needed.

Recently NVIDIA launched a new feature called Automatic Shader Compilation (ASC) , and because of this new feature, DDU had to be updated. Wagnardsoft posted Display Driver Uninstaller 18.1.5.1, and the main NVIDIA-side change is that shader cache removal is now optional for users running NVIDIA ASC. The update also adds support for removing NVIDIA Shader Compiler tasks, adjusts registry exclusions when the NVIDIA App is not selected, improves temp-folder cleanup precision, and updates task-scheduler removal methods.

NVIDIA’s latest App update introduced Auto Shader Compilation, a beta feature that rebuilds DirectX 12 game shaders after a driver update while the system is idle, or on demand, to reduce load-time delays later. NVIDIA also notes that games still need to generate shaders in-game on first download, with ASC handling updates after later driver changes.

DDU 18.1.5.1

  • Nvidia: The NVIDIA Shader Cache removal is now an option (for users using NVIDIA ASC)
  • Nvidia App: Support the removal of the “NVIDIA Shader Compiler” tasks.
  • Nvidia: Adjusted registry entries exclusion when the Nvidia App is not selected.
  • Nvidia: More precise removal on the temp folder.
  • Updated task scheduler removal methods.
