Sony wants to scan PlayStation fans for Gran Turismo 7 appearance

Sony launches The Playerbase, selected fans can appear in PlayStation Studios games

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced The Playerbase , a new community program that will place selected PlayStation fans inside PlayStation Studios games. The program starts with Gran Turismo 7, while Sony says more games will be added later.

According to Sony, applicants will be asked about their PlayStation experience and must sign in with a PlayStation account to take part. The program is available in select markets across the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia.

Sony says it will review applications and pick a limited number of finalists for video interviews . One fan will then be selected for Gran Turismo 7. That player will appear as a limited-time in-game character portrait, similar to other portraits used in the game.

The selected participant will also help create a custom Fantasy Logo and a unique vehicle livery. Sony says both will be added permanently to the Showcase menu. The winner will be invited to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a scanning session and design collaboration.

This may appeal to the most devoted PlayStation fans. At least it is better than generating characters with AI.
