MacBook Neo rumor points to A19 Pro upgrade and 12GB RAM in 2027

Apple is reportedly preparing a second-generation MacBook Neo for next year. According to Tim Culpan, the new model will use a version of the A19 Pro chip expected to debut in the iPhone 17 Pro series.
If that report is accurate, the biggest change could be memory capacity. MacRumors mentions that since the A19 Pro uses 12GB unified memory, the next-gen Neo should also have 12GB memory support , up from 8GB on the current model, because that is the memory configuration tied to the A19 Pro in Apple’s upcoming Pro phones.
In the latest edition of his Culpium newsletter today, Culpan said the new MacBook Neo will be equipped with a version of the A19 Pro chip from the iPhone 17 Pro models. This means the next edition of the laptop should have an increased 12GB of RAM, as that is how much unified memory the chip has in the iPhone 17 Pro models.

Macbook Neo Series:
- 2026 : A18 Pro 6-core CPU (2+4), 5-core GPU, 16-core NPU, 8GB RAM, 256/512 SSD
- 2027 : A19 Pro 6-core CPU (2+4), 5-core GPU, 16-core NPU, 12GB RAM, ? SSD
The report also says Apple may use a binned version of the chip with a 5-core GPU (A19 Pro has 6 total). That would match the current MacBook Neo, which already ships with a 5-core GPU, so the graphics configuration may stay unchanged even if the SoC is updated.
The 2026 Neo is definitely one of the biggest surprises this year, especially at its $599 price point. It may be difficult, if not impossible, for Intel, AMD, and Qualcomm to offer anything with their latest chips at a similar price. Well, we will be looking at Snapdragon X2 Plus and Intel Wildcat Lake system that will appear in few months and see if that’s even possible.
