Redditor discovers Mac Pro 6,1 stored inside stripped Mac Pro tower

A Redditor has shared one of the stranger Apple garage sale finds in recent memory, a classic aluminum Mac Pro enclosure with a 2013 Mac Pro sitting inside it.
What looked like a two-for-one Mac Pro deal was really a stripped older tower being used as storage for Apple’s much smaller 2013 Mac Pro, the cylindrical model often politely referred to as the “trash can.” According to comments in the thread, the larger unit appears to be little more than an aluminum shell with some leftover internal parts.

The actual hardware find is the Mac Pro 6,1 hidden inside. The original poster said the system powers up, but has no operating system installed. That makes the $25 pickup a decent garage sale surprise, even if the first Mac Pro turned out to be more of a transport box than a workstation.
I’m no Apple expert, but judging from the comments, it appears that the smaller 2013 Mac Pro is built around a tightly controlled thermal design that depends on its outer shell and internal airflow path. In other words, the smaller Mac Pro probably is not meant to run properly without the case wrapped around it. So to make it work, the shell is required, and that’s not included.
