Sapphire NITRO+ RX 9070 XT hits 9 reported 12V-2×6 connector melt cases

Another Sapphire NITRO+ RX 9070 XT 12V-2×6 melt report surfaces

A new Reddit post has added another public report of a melted 12V-2×6 power connection on the Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 9070 XT. The latest case was posted on Reddit by a user who says the card arrived for service with black-screen symptoms and visible connector damage while using Sapphire’s included 3×8-pin to 16-pin adapter.

We tracked multiple Sapphire NITRO+ failures tied to the same blue-tipped adapter (it’s always the RX 9070 XT model), with coverage in October, November, December, and January.

Based on the information we collected, the Sapphire NITRO+ RX 9070 XT now appears to have at least nine known public cases .

One detail that keeps repeating is the use of Sapphire’s bundled blue-tipped 3×8-pin adapter rather than a native PSU cable. In a December interview, Sapphire’s Ed Crisler said the company had seen three known cases at that stage and attributed them to the adapter cable rather than the card connector or PSU itself.
