Valve Proton 11.0 Beta 1 released, adds support for X-Plane 12, Breath of Fire IV and more

Valve releases Proton 11.0 Beta 1 with five newly playable games

Valve has released Proton 11.0 Beta 1, the first public beta for its next major Steam Play compatibility layer. The newly playable games listed by Valve are Unknown Faces, Gothic 1 Classic, X-Plane 12, Breath of Fire IV, and Deadly Premonition .

Proton 11 also picks up a large batch of titles that had already been working in Proton Experimental, including DCS World Steam Edition, Resident Evil, Resident Evil 2, Dino Crisis, Dino Crisis 2, From Dust, METAL GEAR SURVIVE, Warhammer: Vermintide 2, Metal Fatigue, and SHOGUN: Total War.

Wine 11 on board

The bigger platform change is the rebase to Wine 11.0. Valve also updated DXVK to 2.7.1, DXVK-NVAPI to 0.9.1, Wine Mono to 11.0.0, vkd3d to 1.19-based code, and vkd3d-proton to the April 10 build. Proton 11 Beta 1 also adds support for SteamWorks SDK 1.64 and FEX-2604 for ARM64EC builds.

Valve says Proton 11 Beta 1 fixes many EA games that stopped working after a recent EA Desktop update, and also resolves Steam Overlay problems in many EA titles. The release also includes fixes for Crimson Desert, DEATH STRANDING 2: ON THE BEACH, HELLDIVERS 2, No Man’s Sky VR, Microsoft Flight Simulator VR, The Finals, Satisfactory, Sea of Solitude and Phasmophobia .

That Wine 11 rebase is likely the main part of this release beyond the game list. Wine 11 shipped in January, the new Wine base brings broader changes such as improved Wayland support, improved WoW64 support, ntsync use where available, and better ARM64 support. Valve’s own.
