Microsoft Xbox mode is now rolling out to Windows 11 PCs through Insider Preview

Microsoft’s Xbox mode reaches Windows 11 tablets, laptops and desktops

Microsoft has announced that Xbox mode is now available on Windows 11 PCs, including laptops, desktops, and tablets. The feature is part of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 29570.1000 for the Canary Channel, released today.

According to Microsoft, Xbox mode is designed as a streamlined full-screen interface focused on gaming. The company says it is meant for controller-based use, with fewer desktop distractions and quicker access to games. Users can enter the mode from the Xbox app, through Game Bar settings, or with the Win + F11 shortcut.

This is the next step in a rollout Microsoft first outlined at GDC 2026. At the time, the company said Xbox mode would begin rolling out in April to all Windows 11 PC form factors in select markets.

Microsoft also confirmed earlier this month that “ Xbox full screen experience” was being renamed to “Xbox mode.” The April 3 Beta Channel build notes listed the new name and mentioned an updated first-run experience. The new Canary build now uses that branding in public release notes.

We already covered Microsoft’s March announcement that Xbox mode would expand beyond handhelds, as well as the later rebrand from Xbox Full Screen Experience to Xbox mode.
