Lenovo Legion Go S prices jump again, Z1 Extreme model now $1,579

Lenovo raises Legion Go S prices, Z2 Go now $989 and Z1 Extreme $1,579

There was a sharp overnight jump in Lenovo Legion Go S pricing, and Best Buy which seems to be the offiical retail partner for these devices now reflects it. The SteamOS model with Ryzen Z1 Extreme, 32GB RAM, and 1TB SSD is listed at $1,579.99 , while the Ryzen Z2 Go version with 16GB of memory and a 512GB SSD is now $989.99. These systems were listed by Best Buy’s at $899.99 and $649.99 prices respetively.

That is a $680 increase, or 75.6%, for the Z1 Extreme model. The Z2 Go version is up by $340, or 52.3%. At those prices, the Legion Go S is no longer competing on value. It is moving into a price range where buyers will start comparing it to larger handhelds, gaming laptops, and other premium Windows and SteamOS devices.

The jump looks even worse next to late-2025 discounts. During Black Friday, the same Z1 Extreme SteamOS model was offered at $649 at Best Buy. Lenovo had also said at CES 2025 that the Legion Go S powered by SteamOS would start at $499.99, although actual street pricing later varied by configuration and retailer.

Just buy ASUS Xbox Ally

Back in February, Lenovo had raised prices to offset surging memory costs as the memory shortage put pressure on PC shipments. While this is indeed a good explanation, one might wonder how ASUS is still able to sell their handhelds at a reasonable price. The system was already sold at $499, and currently retails at $540, which is still below the official MSRP.

That still does not make Legion Go S easier to recommend at current retail. It does, however, fit a broader Lenovo handheld trend. We already covered Lenovo’s defense of high Legion Go 2 pricing last year, when the company said the newer model used costly parts and was aimed at buyers willing to spend more on handheld gaming hardware.

The question is, does Lenovo still want to sell any handhelds? It looks like they are doing their best, price- and support-wise, to limit sales as much as possible.
