Valve’s new Steam Controller launch is imminent

Valve may be getting closer to a Steam Controller update. A new SteamDB entry called “ steam_controller_unboxing_202 6″ appeared on April 20, listed as a free video app.
The video itself is not publicly viewable yet. Reports pointing to the Steam store link say it currently returns the message “This video has not been processed for streaming,” which suggests Valve uploaded the asset but has not published it for general access. Brad Lynch also pointed to the listing on X and said he expects the controller’s launch to happen soon.

This is not the first sign that Valve is preparing the accessory. Earlier this month, reports based on public records pointed to a large U.S. shipment labeled “Wireless PC Controller,” and earlier Steam client findings also referenced the controller’s setup flow and its wireless puck receiver.
We already covered Valve’s first large 2026 Steam Controller shipment and the company’s earlier update on Steam Machine timing. Valve said in February that Steam Controller, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame were still planned for the first half of 2026, even though pricing remained unsettled due to memory and storage shortages.
The new video entry does not confirm a launch date on its own. Still, an official unboxing asset appearing means that the launch is getting much closer.
