TOKYO -- The war in the Middle East is raising concern over Japan's supply of plastic products for medical care and drawing renewed attention to how heavily the country relies on imports for such essential items as dialysis tubes.

The shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz has cut sharply into Japanese imports of crude oil and the petrochemical feedstock naphtha, which is used to make plastics.
