Gang of Dragon , the new game by YAKUZA creator Toshihiro Nagoshi , might be in serious danger of being canceled. As , the official YouTube channel and trailers have been suddenly deleted. The Steam page , though, the last flicker of hope that the game's development might continue.
Gang of Dragon was unveiled just a few months ago, at The Game Awards 2025 , but it was admittedly already in trouble. After his departure from SEGA in 2021 , Nagoshi founded a new studio with NetEase 's help the following year. However, in early 2025, reports began circulating that NetEase had decided to cut funding for many projects , including Nagoshi's.
Indeed, following the game's announcement, it was revealed that Nagoshi Studio was self-publishing it. However, they clearly had to seek funding to complete the game. The deletion of the YouTube channel and the official trailers suggests they were unsuccessful in this endeavor , although we'll have to wait for an official communication to know for sure.
Gang of Dragon is set in Kabukicho , the iconic nightlife and entertainment district of Shinjuku, Tokyo, a setting immediately familiar to Yakuza fans. The protagonist is Shin Ji-seong , a high-ranking member of a Korean crime syndicate operating in Japan, portrayed by acclaimed Korean-American actor Ma Dong-seok (known internationally as Don Lee , from Train to Busan and Marvel's The Eternals ). Shin becomes entangled in a web of underworld conflicts, betrayal, and power struggles while also confronting his own sense of purpose through intense human connections. The choice of a Korean protagonist in a Japanese criminal underworld setting is a deliberate departure from Nagoshi's previous work, where protagonists were invariably Japanese.
The action-adventure game is played from a third-person perspective and focuses primarily on intense, high-stakes hand-to-hand combat , emphasizing Shin's enormous physical strength. Weapons range from melee weapons and swords to firearms and even portable miniguns. Vehicles are also supposed to play a significant role, with car chases and driving mechanics described as a core part of the experience.
