ASUS warns former customer care provider employee tried to obtain card details from users

ASUS Spain sends a notice notice

Former employee of a customer care service provider misused support data and contacted customers outside official ASUS channels

ASUS has warned at least some customers in Europe that their support data may have been affected by misuse at a customer care service provider. The notice was sent in Spanish, according to a reader tip.

The message says ASUS Holland B.V. recently became aware of an issue involving customer service data. According to ASUS, an employee of an ASUS customer care service provider contacted customers through a non-ASUS channel and tried to convince them to provide credit or debit card details.

ASUS says the person no longer works for the customer care provider. The company also says the incident has been reported to the relevant authorities and that it is working with the provider to reduce the risk of a repeat incident.

The notice says ASUS has no evidence that personal data was misused by that person or anyone else (of course). However, ASUS warns customers that it does not request credit or debit card information while providing customer care services. Customers who receive such requests are told not to provide payment card details and to contact ASUS directly.

This is not the first time ASUS has had serious issues with its service. As we reported a few weeks ago, the company is experiencing high repair volumes of some products, which has forced the company to send the products to other regions.

Many thanks to Bear for the tip!
