XChat, the standalone messaging app from X, is now available. X’s new iPhone and iPad app has officially arrived on the App Store.

As of Friday, April 24th, the XChat app has officially launched.

Unlike the official X app, XChat is a little more at home with iOS 26 design. It even uses the iOS 26 keyboard. The X app still uses the iOS 18 version of the keyboard.

If you’ve ever relied on X or Twitter for communicating with people through direct messages, so far the XChat app looks and feels like a huge upgrade over that experience.

The app features a variety of playful XChat icons:

You can also manage settings like light/dark mode, message permissions, and what the left swipe interaction action does: like or info.

XChat includes a prominent button for launching the X app as well.

At launch, there’s no CarPlay support for XChat. WhatsApp recently overhauled its CarPlay app to work more like Apple’s Messages app.

X hasn’t released CarPlay support for Grok either, although conversational voice iPhone apps like ChatGPT and Perplexity now work in the car.

Hopefully CarPlay is on the X team’s radar following the initial XChat release.

XChat allows users to “chat with anyone on X in a private, focused space built for conversation,” per the app’s description.

XChat doesn’t include ads or tracking, and messaging is end-to-end encrypted.

A preview of the app first showed features like the ability to block screenshots, send disappearing messages, hold group chats, and make video calls.

The app launch comes as X shuts down its Communities feature in favor of Groupchat Links this week.

The XChat app has been in testing since last year. XChat can be downloaded now.
