MSI says its patented PinSafe design flattens rear solder points and reduces exposed metal on high-end motherboards.

MSI has detailed PinSafe, a patented motherboard design now used on its higher-end boards. The company says the change targets one of the less pleasant parts of DIY PC assembly, the sharp solder points on the back of the PCB. Technology that you asked for many times after cutting your fingers during motherboards installations. PinSafe changes the solder joint structure to a flatter surface, reducing the amount of exposed sharp metal on the rear side of the board.
PinSafe is a new patented technology introduced by MSI for high-end motherboards. In the past, during DIY PC assembly, the exposed and sharp solder points on the back of the motherboard could easily scratch or cut fingers.

According to MSI, the process uses reflow soldering with more precise solder paste control. The company also mentions enclosed pads and solder mask integration, which are meant to reduce exposed metal and lower oxidation risk.

MSI says PinSafe boards have passed EMC testing while keeping signal quality and grounding behavior in line with traditional designs. The company also says power connectors, USB ports and pin headers went through mechanical retention testing.

First PinSafe motherboard already on the market
The first board mentioned by MSI is the MPG X870E CARBON MAX WIFI . This is a new AM5 motherboard which appeared as one of the company’s refresh boards with a 64 MB BIOS chip, PCIe 5.0 support and Wi-Fi 7. MSI is also pairing the board with Steel Armor II for the PCIe slot. The design adds reinforcement and extra solder points for heavier graphics cards, which are now common in high-end desktop systems.
