Framework RTX 5070 12GB Graphics Module costs $1,199, over 70% more than 8GB model

Framework is one of the first laptop makers to confirm RTX 5070 12GB option, but price raises eyebrows

Framework RTX 5070 12GB module costs $1,199, 72% more than 8GB version

Literally yesterday, we covered a strange dispute between Framework and Dell, with Framework claiming that Dell is poaching influencers it had already worked with. We also mentioned that both companies have one thing in common: premium pricing. The RTX 5070 12GB Graphics Module that just launched may be a good example of why Framework needs influencers to help convince buyers.

Framework is one of the first companies to offer NVIDIA’s new GeForce RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB of memory. The new GPU option is available through the Framework Laptop 16 Graphics Module, which can be installed as an upgrade for existing systems.

70% higher price for 50% more memory

The existing RTX 5070 8GB Graphics Module is listed by Framework at $699, while the new 12GB version is priced at $1,199. That is a $500 increase, or 71.5% more, for 4GB more GDDR7 memory, or, to put it better, 50% more memory. Since both SKUs have the same specs otherwise, this is either a miscalculation from Framework or an attempt to earn on a relatively new mobile SKU launch.

The new pricing also shows how memory cost is now affecting laptop GPU configurations directly. NVIDIA’s 12GB RTX 5070 Laptop GPU was introduced as a response to supply constraints, but Framework’s module pricing shows that access to the new memory configuration does not come without a large premium.

NVIDIA officially announced the 12GB version of their RTX 5070 Laptop GPU, and we're happy to share that we have a new Graphics Module for Framework Laptop 16 with it. This is our 3rd Graphics Module, and we're living up to the promise of graphics upgradeability in a laptop! pic.twitter.com/4vsMyXLeSr

NVIDIA has not officially disclosed the cost difference between 16Gb and 24Gb GDDR7 memory modules. There may be a surcharge for the 50% higher density, or the higher price may simply reflect added margins across the supply chain. One thing is clear, Framework needs to explain how they calculated this price because it doesn’t quite make much sense.
