AMD “Halo Box” mini PC resurfaces in Linux RGB driver patch

AMD Halo Box gets Linux driver support, but only for its RGB light bar for now

AMD’s Strix Halo mini PC appears in new Linux patches

AMD has not said much about its Ryzen AI Halo mini PC since CES 2026, but the system has now appeared in Linux driver patches. According to Phoronix, AMD has posted a new x86 platform driver called amd_halo_led , which is designed for the RGB light bar on the upcoming AMD Halo Box.

We first covered the Ryzen AI Halo system in January , when AMD showed the mini PC as a local AI development platform based on Strix Halo. The system uses a Ryzen AI Max-class APU and is positioned against small AI workstations such as NVIDIA DGX Spark and Dell GB10. AMD also said the platform would support ROCm and open-weight AI models at launch.

Finally some work being done

The new Linux driver does not expose new CPU, GPU or AI features. It only controls the system’s RGB LED light bar. The driver registers with the Linux LED multi-color subsystem and exposes sysfs controls for RGB intensity and brightness. Phoronix notes that the patch describes three independent RGB channels for the light bar. The patch also refers to the system as “ AMD Halo Box ” multiple times. This may be the final product name, although AMD has not confirmed that publicly.

There might be more info coming

AMD has already announced its Advancing AI 2026 event for July 22 to 23 in San Francisco. The company is also promoting its “AMD DevDay” developer event taking place tomorrow. Perhaps something about the Halo Box will be announced?
