Bazzite 44 reaches desktop users, handheld builds delayed for testing

Bazzite 44 rolls out to desktops first

One of the most popular Linux gaming distros has an update. Bazzite 44 is now available for desktop users, following the release of Fedora Linux 44. The gaming-focused Linux distribution now ships with GNOME 50, KDE Plasma 6.6, Mesa 26.0.5 and the OGC Kernel 6.19.x.

Universal Blue says Kernel 7.0 will arrive later , with the Valve VRAM patchset planned for that update. The current Bazzite 44 release keeps handheld and Deck builds on a slower rollout path while the team tests the changes.

Bazzite 44 updates

The update also changes the KDE image. Ptyxis has been removed from KDE builds, while Konsole now ships with container support. Bazzite 44 also adds Bazaar 0.7.15 and built-in support for Elgato 4K capture cards.

Universal Blue says Bazzite images are now smaller by around 1GB. This comes from moving in-image QEMU and ROCM components to Bazzite-DX for users who need them. The update also adds SBOM-powered changelogs, build attestation, OpenSSF security scanning and signed ISOs.

  • Ptyxis has been dropped from our KDE images, and the new Konsole terminal is available with container support.
  • SBOMs (Which now power our changelogs) ,Build Attestation,OpenSSFsecurity scanning, and signed ISOs.
  • Built in support for Elgato 4K capture cards
  • Images reduced by 1GB thanks to moving in-image QEMU and ROCM toBazzite-DXfor users who need them
  • Access to the latest and greatest ASUS Linux patches for use with ASUSCtl (A brew package for this is being explored to make it even easier)
  • New brew installer for Sunshine via ujust. Sunshine is no longer preinstalled in-image.

Handheld Bazzite 44 later

For ASUS handheld and laptop users, Bazzite 44 includes the latest ASUS Linux patches for ASUSCtl. This tool provides access to hardware controls such as LED settings, fan profiles and power options on supported systems.

Handheld users will need to wait. Universal Blue says Deck builds will enter testing “in the near future,” but the update is being slow-rolled because of the number of changes. The team says more information on handheld images will be shared in the coming weeks.
