Microsoft schedules Xbox Game Dev Update for May 7 with Project Helix recap

Microsoft to cover Project Helix in developer update next week

Microsoft has announced Xbox Game Dev Update, a new developer-focused show covering Xbox tools, DirectX, Marketplace updates and Project Helix.

The first episode will premiere on May 7 at 9 AM PDT, 12 PM EDT and 6 PM CEST. Microsoft says the episode will review updates from GDC 2026, including Project Helix, Xbox developer tools, DirectStorage and Xbox Marketplace changes. It is not expected to bring new details.

Project Helix will be covered by Chris Charla and Jason Ronald. Microsoft says the session will offer a closer look at details shared at GDC and what the platform represents for Xbox developers.

Introduction of Project Helix

Presented by: Chris Charla (GM, Portfolio & Programs) & Jason Ronald (VP, Next Generation)

Chris and Jason will walk through the details shared at GDC, offering a closer look at Project Helix and what it represents for the future of Xbox.

What does Project Helix mean for developers? It’s powered by a custom AMD-based SoC and co-designed for the next-generation of DirectX, as part of our ongoing partnership to shape the future of rendering and simulation. Project Helix will create new opportunities for you to optimize build workflows, improve performance, and iterate more efficiently. Xbox is building for what’s next and we’re inviting you to join us on that journey.

Based on the agenda, this appears to be a developer recap rather than a new consumer hardware reveal. The Project Helix section is listed as a review of GDC information, which is where Microsoft already confirmed AMD FSR Next and ML Multi Frame Generation support for the platform.

The episode will also include a DirectX State of the Union session from Shawn Hargreaves, focused on DirectStorage asset compression and streaming, batched I/O and cross-vendor standardization. Microsoft will also cover the April GDK, Xbox PC Remote Tools, PlayFab foundation mode and Marketplace updates.
