Xbox drops plans to bring Copilot to Series X|S consoles

Xbox cancels Copilot for consoles

Microsoft is no longer developing Copilot for Xbox consoles. Xbox CEO Asha Sharma said the company will stop development of Copilot on console and begin winding down Copilot on mobile as part of a broader change inside Xbox.

The decision comes less than two months after Microsoft said Gaming Copilot would expand to current-generation consoles. The console rollout was announced during GDC 2026 by Sonali Yadav, Xbox’s Gaming AI partner group product manager. The feature was expected to arrive later this year, with Xbox Series X|S being the expected target platforms.

Xbox needs to move faster, deepen our connection with the community, and address friction for both players and developers.
Today, we promoted leaders who helped build Xbox, while also bringing in new voices to help push us forward. This balance is important as we get the business…

Microsoft first introduced Copilot for Gaming in March 2025 on the Official Xbox Podcast. At the time, the company described it as an AI assistant for Xbox players, with early access planned through the Xbox mobile app for Insiders. The beta later rolled out on mobile devices, where it could answer questions about games, player activity, achievements and recommendations.

Sharma said Xbox needs to move faster, strengthen its connection with the community and reduce friction for players and developers. She also linked the Copilot change to a leadership reshuffle, which includes both Xbox veterans and new executives from Microsoft’s CoreAI organization.
