Nintendo raises Switch 2 price to $499 in the US after investor pressure
The rumors were true, shareholders won. Nintendo has confirmed a new round of price increases for Switch 2 and the original Switch family. The Switch 2 will rise from $449.99 to $499.99 in the US from September 1, 2026. The same date applies to Canada and Europe, where the console moves to $679.99 CAD and €499.99 on My Nintendo Store.
Nintendo says the change follows “changes in market conditions” and its global business outlook. The company also apologized for the impact on customers and other stakeholders. The confirmation follows earlier reports that investors were pushing Nintendo to raise Switch 2 pricing, which we covered earlier this week .
Japan will see the price changes earlier, on May 25, 2026. The Japanese-language Switch 2 model will increase from ¥49,980 to ¥59,980. Nintendo Switch OLED will rise to ¥47,980, the standard Switch to ¥43,980, and Switch Lite to ¥29,980.

The multi-language Switch 2 model sold through My Nintendo Store in Japan will remain at ¥69,980. Nintendo is also raising Nintendo Switch Online pricing in Japan to match other regions.
This means the standalone Switch 2 will soon cost the same in the US as the Mario Kart World bundle did at launch. Nintendo originally launched Switch 2 on June 5, 2025, with a $449.99 MSRP for the console and $499.99 for the Mario Kart World bundle.
