Nintendo Switch 2 reaches 19.86 million units sold, PS5 rises to around 93.6 million shipped consoles

PS5 needs around 6.4 million more units to reach 100 million

Switch 2 at nearly 20 million

Nintendo has updated its official hardware sales data, confirming that Nintendo Switch 2 reached 19.86 million units sold worldwide as of March 31, 2026. The figure puts the console close to the 20 million unit mark after its first fiscal year on the market. Nintendo also reported 48.71 million units of Switch 2 software sold over the same period.

The original Nintendo Switch continues to sell as well. Nintendo lists lifetime hardware sales at 155.92 million units, with software sales now at 1.528 billion units. This means Switch has moved further ahead of Nintendo DS, which ended at 154.02 million units.

Nintendo expects Switch 2 hardware sales to fall in FY27. The company forecasts 16.50 million units for the fiscal year ending March 2027, down 16.9% from FY26. Switch 2 software is forecast at 60.00 million units, up 23.2% year over year. Sales will also slow down given that the company has today announced a price increase for its new handheld.

The PlayStation 5 is poised to surpass the PlayStation 4

Sony’s latest official data shows PlayStation 5 is still short of 100 million units. Sony Interactive Entertainment listed PS5 sell-in at more than 92.1 million units as of December 31, 2025. Sony’s latest supplemental data shows another 1.5 million PS5 units shipped in Q4 FY25, bringing the estimated lifetime total to around 93.6 million units.

That leaves PS5 around 6.4 million units away from 100 million. Sony shipped 16.0 million PS5 consoles during FY25, down from 18.5 million units in FY24. Given that PS6 is not expected to drop this year, the PS5 is more than likely to overtake PS4 sales.
