ASUS launches 24:9 ROG Strix XG129C touchscreen for desktop monitoring

ASUS has announced the ROG Strix XG129C, a secondary display built for system monitoring, chat windows, streaming controls, and desktop shortcuts. It is only 12.3 inches, but it still carries a full gaming monitor product name, as if the monitor category demanded confusing names.
The ROG Strix XG129C uses a 12.3-inch IPS panel with a 1920×720 resolution and 24:9 aspect ratio (also known as a frontend UI designer nightmare). ASUS says this format gives the screen more vertical space than similarly sized 32:9 panels and reduces black bars when showing 16:9 content.

The panel supports 10-point capacitive touch, a 75Hz refresh rate, 300 nits brightness, 1200:1 contrast ratio, 125% sRGB coverage, and 90% DCI-P3 coverage. ASUS lists the display surface as glossy and rates the panel for 176-degree viewing angles.

ASUS is also bundling a one-year AIDA64 Extreme subscription with ROG SensorPanel themes. The idea is simple: the XG129C can sit under a main monitor and show CPU temperature, GPU load, fan speed, memory usage, clocks, and other live system data. ( @ROG )
Connectivity includes two USB-C ports and HDMI 1.2. ASUS says one USB-C connection can handle power, video, and touch data when connected to a compatible device with DisplayPort Alt Mode and at least 10W power output. The monitor also has 20W USB-C Power Delivery, a built-in adjustable kickstand, and a 1/4-inch tripod socket. The XG129C weighs 0.56 kg with its stand and 0.51 kg without it.

ASUS has not published pricing on its US product page yet, although early retail and regional listings point to a price of $199 in the US, $269 CAD in Canada, AUD $299 in Australia, and €239.90 in Europe including VAT. At this price, I would just buy another standard monitor.
