Nintendo has reported its financials for the end of its 2026 fiscal year, and while we're all still reeling from the official confirmation that the Nintendo Switch 2 will go up in price later this year , Nintendo can celebrate where the Switch 2 has gotten them so far. Per , the new handheld hybrid console has officially reached 19.86 million units sold since it arrived last year, and its launch helped push a massive 98.6% increase in net sales compared to last year.
The 19.86 million units sold figure comes from Nintendo's official , which now shows the updated numbers since the end of its financial year, which was on March 31, 2026. It's a 2.49 million unit increase compared to the last time Nintendo updated the Switch 2's total units sold number back in February 2026 , when it reached 17.37 million units and the Switch 1 officially became the company's best selling console ever, finally supplanting the Nintendo DS.
Digging slightly into the software side, Mario Kart World continues to be the far and away front-runner for first-party Switch 2 exclusive titles, as it has now hit 14.70 million units sold , while the title closest to it, Donkey Kong Bananza , has only reached 4.52 million .
It's a massive gap that is, of course, aided by the fact that Nintendo counts each bundle it sells with Mario Kart World and a Switch 2 console as a sale for the game, but it also shows how the rest of the Switch 2 exclusive lineup is doing well, but is still finding its footing, as there are notable titles missing from the list of top-selling games, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond and Mario Tennis Fever , for example, are both absent from the list, which means they have yet to hit above the last game on the list, Kirby Air Riders , which itself is only at 1.87 million units sold.
Overall, Nintendo's latest full-year financials show that it had an incredibly strong 2025-2026, which is also why its forecast for 2027 is entirely in decline. Paired with the Switch 2 going up in price and the simple fact that Nintendo can't expect the Switch 2 to do just as well as it did in its launch year, its 2027 forecasting for net sales and ordinary profit are down by double-digits at 11.4% and 20.7%, respectively.
" For Nintendo Switch 2, sales were more concentrated in the launch year in comparison to previous hardware systems, " the company noted. " Reflecting strong launch-year sales and price revisions, we expect FY27 sales units to decline year-on-year. Even so, we believe this represents a solid level of adoption for Nintendo Switch 2 in its second year after launch. "
It'll be interesting to see how the price increase impacts Switch 2 sales in the next few months, as Nintendo gave anyone still holding out for a Switch 2 plenty of time to get one ahead of the price increase in September. It won't be surprising if we see a spike in Switch 2 sales from now until then, with a steady decline to follow.
That said, if Nintendo can deliver on highly anticipated titles like a new 3D Mario game and a new Zelda game in the near future, then it won't be surprising if the price increases barely make a dent in slowing down Switch 2 sales.
