Sony tells GTA 6 wishlisters to get a PS5 before launch

Sony has started sending upgrade emails to PlayStation users who still do not own a PS5. The message is tied directly to Grand Theft Auto VI, which is now scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026.
The email reportedly says: “Grand Theft Auto VI is on your wishlist. Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026.” This appears to target PS4 users who added the game to their wishlist but do not have supported hardware yet.

Recently Sony confirmed there’s no release date for PS6 . While GTA6 was never confirmed for next-gen consoles, it was also never confirmed for PS4. Rockstar lists Grand Theft Auto VI for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game has not been announced for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC at launch.
The company expects lower PlayStation hardware sales in FY2026, while memory prices are expected to affect console supply and margins. Sony said it will base PS5 hardware sales on the amount of memory it can procure at reasonable prices.
Grand Theft Auto VI is still officially planned for November 19, 2026. Rockstar delayed the game from its previous date and said the extra time is needed for polish.
