Cooler Master MWE Gold V4 Pre-Orders Begin In China, Featuring Native Support For GPU Shield

Power supplies for a special protective cable will start shipping soon as Cooler Master begins taking pre-orders.

Not just ASRock and ASUS, Cooler Master has also prepared a special 16-pin power cable for RTX GPUs that aims to tackle connector burning. While first introduced at CES this year, the GPU Shield requires compatible power supplies to operate. Cooler Master did announce the MWE Gold V4 series for the GPU Shield, but it hasn't been out yet. However, it appears that the power supply units will soon start hitting the shelves.

As reported by , the Cooler Master MWE Gold V4 has started appearing on popular retailers such as for pre-orders. Currently, the 850W-capacity MWE Gold v4 is available on the platform for 659 Yuan (US$97), and additional capacities are in development, including a 1000W unit. There will be three capacities in the family: 750W, 850W, and 1000W as announced by Cooler Master previously.

The MWE Gold V4 PSUs natively support the GPU Shield cable, which protects the GPU connector from burning. GPU Shield aims to fix the inherent flaw in the 12V-2x6 connector that causes improper load distribution across the wires. According to Cooler Master, the GPU Shield adds real-time electrical monitoring between the PSU and the GPU connector.

Just Buy has demonstrated how it works in a video uploaded on . On the MWE Gold V4, there is an LED near the 16-pin connector that indicates the current status of the situation. If the LED is Green, it means the connector is fully seated, and the current distribution is uniform. If it blinks Red, it indicates improper connection and improper current distribution. In case the current distribution is too abnormal, the LED will light up red and the GPU's protection mode will be triggered, resulting in screen blackout.

  1. Current <9.3 A= Green LED
  2. Current >9.3 A= Red Blinking LED
  3. Current >15 A= Continuous Red LED and screen blackout
