Microsoft may let Xbox users convert discs to digital licenses

Microsoft may be preparing a new Xbox Game Pass offer for China, according to references found in the Xbox PC app. The codename is “ Project Saluki, ” and it reportedly points to a China market expansion for Game Pass, Rewards and subscription tiers.
Windows Central reports that the references were found in recent Xbox Insider builds. The Verge also found the same codename in the Xbox PC app, where Microsoft describes it as a Game Pass expansion for China. Microsoft has not announced the service yet.
China does not currently have a standard Xbox Game Pass rollout. Microsoft sells Xbox consoles in the country, but local game approvals limit the catalog. A China-specific Game Pass tier would likely need a smaller library built around approved titles, regional pricing and local content rules.

Positron
The same app code also mentions “ Positron ,” another Xbox codename linked to “Disc2Digital.” There are not many details yet, but the name suggests Microsoft may be looking at a way to connect physical Xbox discs with digital licenses. This is not a new idea for Xbox. Microsoft tried something similar around the Xbox One launch, but dropped it after criticism over used games and disc ownership.
This would make sense if Microsoft is moving toward a more digital Xbox. Microsoft says it’s next-gen Xbox console will play Xbox console games and PC games, and it will use a custom AMD SoC built for future DirectX and FSR features. Alpha hardware is expected to reach developers in 2027.
If “Positron” turns into a real feature, it could give disc owners a way to bring their libraries into the next Xbox generation. Microsoft would probably need some kind of license check or disc verification, so one disc could not be used to create multiple digital copies.
