Framework Laptop 13 can now be upgraded with SpacemiT K3 RISC-V board
Gosh, it’s been quite a while since I posted anything about RISC-V. DeepComputing has opened orders for the DC-ROMA RISC-V Mainboard III, a new motherboard designed for the Framework Laptop 13. The board is priced from $699 and is offered in Basic, Standard and Pro bundles.
The product was originally announced on January 31 at FOSDEM 2026. DeepComputing later showed it again at Framework’s NextGen event in April. Orders are now live through the company’s store, with the first batch expected to ship at the end of June 2026.

The board uses the SpacemiT K3 SoC. DeepComputing lists an 8-core RVA23 CPU running at up to 2.5 GHz, plus an 8-core RVA22 AI specialized CPU. The company claims up to 60 TOPS of general-purpose AI compute. Memory options include 16GB or 32GB of onboard LPDDR5.
The mainboard also includes one M.2 2280 slot for SATA or NVMe storage, one microSD slot and an M.2 2230 wireless slot. Display output is handled through USB-C with DisplayPort 1.4 support up to 4K at 60 Hz. The board also supports the Framework Laptop 13 internal 2.2K display.

This also gives owners of the original 2021 Framework Laptop 13 a rare upgrade path. Because the board is designed for the same modular Laptop 13 platform, users with the first 11th Gen Intel model should be able to replace the x86 mainboard with DeepComputing’s RISC-V board. The laptop keeps its chassis, display, keyboard, battery and Expansion Card system, but moves to a different CPU architecture. In this case, an older Intel-based Framework laptop can become a native RISC-V Linux development machine.

DeepComputing says the Ubuntu image is intended for RISC-V developer usage and is not production-ready. The board is mainly aimed at developers working on Linux, compilers, software ports and the RVA23 RISC-V software stack.
Pricing starts at $699 for the Basic 16GB version without SSD. The 32GB Basic model is listed at $999. Standard bundles with a 1TB SSD start at $899, while the Pro bundle with a full Framework Laptop 13 chassis starts at $1,499. The top listed configuration with 32GB memory and 1TB SSD reaches $1,799.
