Steam Frame gets Qualcomm Device Finder page ahead of Valve launch
Valve’s standalone VR headset is now listed by Qualcomm, while Proton 11 Beta 3 updates FEX for ARM64 devices.
Valve’s Steam Frame has appeared on Qualcomm’s XR/VR/AR Device Finder, giving the headset another public listing ahead of launch. The page confirms the use of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Mobile Platform, which is the same chip Valve listed when it announced the headset in November.
Qualcomm describes Steam Frame as a Snapdragon-powered VR headset with advanced CPU and GPU performance, AI acceleration and fast connectivity. Valve’s own specs list the headset with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, SteamOS 3, 256GB or 1TB of UFS storage, microSD expansion and a 21.6 Wh battery charged over USB-C at up to 45W.

Steam Frame is not a direct Valve Index replacement. It is a standalone VR headset designed for both PC streaming and local playback. Valve has positioned the device as a streaming-first headset, but it can also run games directly on the device through SteamOS.
Proton 11 Beta 3 released
This is where Proton 11 becomes relevant. Valve has released Proton 11.0-1 Beta 3, a small ARM64-only update that moves FEX to version 2605. FEX is used to run x86 applications on ARM64 Linux systems, which is important for Steam Frame because the headset uses an ARM-based Qualcomm SoC rather than an x86 processor.

FEX 2605 brings JIT fixes, performance improvements for 32-bit and 64-bit games and a fix for an ARM64EC crash related to game controller use. The update is small for Steam Deck users, but it is more relevant for Steam Frame and other ARM64 Linux devices.
Valve may sell Steam Frame without power supply
There is also a new data-mined Steam backend reference to a Steam Frame option without a PSU. The strings reportedly include “BuyWithoutPSU” and “PSULessModel,” which suggests Valve may prepare a charger-free package for the headset.
A base Steam Machine with 512GB and a PSU-less Steam Frame option, may actually be a choice.

This does not confirm a cheaper model. Valve already offers a charger-free Steam Deck option in some European markets, but that option does not change the price. If Steam Frame follows the same path, the PSU-less listing may be a regional compliance option rather than a lower entry price.
Valve has not announced the Steam Frame price or final release date. The company previously said Steam Frame, Steam Machine and Steam Controller were still planned for the first half of 2026, but memory and storage shortages forced Valve to revisit launch timing and pricing.
