ASUS reveals custom ROG Xbox Ally X made with AK Studio

ASUS has shown a custom ROG Xbox Ally X inspired by Cyberpunk 2077. The handheld was created with the team behind the game and Taiwanese modding team AK Studio, also known as AK Mod. ASUS calls it a one-of-a-kind professional mod, not a new retail model.

This is still based on the ROG Xbox Ally X. The standard system uses AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, 24GB LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB SSD, an 80Wh battery and a 7-inch 1080p 120Hz display. ASUS has not mentioned a giveaway, retail launch or wider production for this Cyberpunk 2077 version.

The mod brings up a good question. ASUS has released several ROG Ally systems, including the original ROG Ally, ROG Ally X, ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X. However, the company still does not offer themed retail variants or limited-edition shells for the Ally line. In terms of color choices, there are only black and white models available, and we can’t just ignore the case for more yellow in the PC space.

It kind of feels like a missed opportunity for a handheld gaming PC. ASUS already sells themed ROG hardware in other categories, while the Ally design could clearly support game-themed or color-matched variants. Perhaps when handheld pricing returns to ‘reasonable’ levels ASUS and other handheld makers will explore more variant options? Even Steam Deck had a special Limited edition.
