Steam Frame testing begins, according to VR creator
Valve’s Steam Frame has appeared in public testing, but this does not appear to be an official review unit.
German VR creator VooDooDE VR showed the headset on X and said he would spend the next few days testing it. He also posted a short video of the device and commented on its comfort after a brief hands-on session.
Steam Frame is Valve’s new standalone VR headset. It is designed to run SteamOS locally on ARM hardware, while also supporting wireless PC VR streaming from a gaming PC. The headset uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, 16GB of LPDDR5X memory and dual 2160×2160 LCD panels. It is part of Valve’s 2026 hardware lineup, alongside Steam Machine and the new Steam Controller.
It’s not an official review
The important part came later. VooDooDE clarified on YouTube that the Steam Frame was not his device and that he had not signed an NDA. He did not confirm whether the unit was a borrowed developer kit, another creator’s sample or some other pre-release unit.

This means the headset is being tested outside Valve, but it is too early to say that review samples are now out. The current information only confirms that at least one Steam Frame unit is being used publicly before Valve shares final launch details.
The headset runs SteamOS and is designed for wireless PC VR streaming, while also supporting local playback on ARM hardware. Voodoo DE confirms that he has the full package with the dongle for PC connection, so we might get a glimpse of Frame’s performance and streaming capability quite soon.
