007 First Light gets upgraded PSSR support on PS5 Pro
IO Interactive says Sony’s newer upscaler improves motion stability and fine detail.
Sony has confirmed that 007 First Light will use upgraded PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution on PlayStation 5 Pro at launch. The IO Interactive game will have upgraded PSSR enabled by default on PS5 Pro. Sony says the newer machine-learning upscaler reconstructs a sharper and more stable image from a lower internal resolution.
According to IO Interactive, the upgraded PSSR implementation improves image stability in scenes with dense foliage, fine geometry and high-frequency detail. The studio also points to reduced shimmering and flickering, along with better reconstruction of hair, fabric and other fine elements.

IO Interactive’s Jon Rocatis said the integration took little time. The studio reportedly had upgraded PSSR running “in about a day,” with “no per-scene tuning” required across the game’s environments and lighting conditions.
Sony also confirmed that other platforms will continue to use AMD FSR 3.1.5. Which means that AMD Software will automatically upgrade that to FSR 4.1 on RDNA4 platforms and later for RDNA3 (July) and RDNA2 (2027). This means upgraded PSSR remains a PS5 Pro-specific path for 007 First Light, while PC and other platforms use the existing FSR implementation.
The PSSR update was first detailed for Resident Evil Requiem in February, followed by a broader March rollout for supported PS5 Pro games through the “Enhance PSSR Image Quality” system option.
