AMD says RYZEN AI Halo box will ‘pay for itself’
Price seems ridiculously high.
AMD’s Ryzen AI Halo mini PC now has a confirmed price. According to The Register, the AMD-branded AI workstation will be available for pre-order next month at $3,999 with 128GB of LPDDR5X memory.
The system is based on Ryzen AI Max+ 395, AMD’s Strix Halo APU with 16 Zen 5 cores and Radeon 8060S graphics. The chip also includes an XDNA 2 NPU rated at 50 TOPS. The report lists the system with a 120W configuration and a compact 150 × 150 × 43 mm chassis
AMD announced Ryzen AI Halo at CES 2026 as a developer mini PC for local AI workloads. The company said the platform supports Windows and Linux, full ROCm support, up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 60 TFLOPS of RDNA 3.5 graphics performance. AMD also claims the system can run models with up to 200 billion parameters locally, depending on format and quantization.

The system is also aimed at NVIDIA DGX Spark. AMD’s advantage is x86-64 support and Windows compatibility, while NVIDIA’s platform is based on Grace Blackwell and its own software stack. The Register reports that AMD will include preinstalled playbooks, developer program access and cloud credits, which appear to be part of the price premium.
Just buy any Halo box for less
Pricing is, let’s say, controversial. They say that your remote AI agent bill would be around 750 USD per month. As noted by The Register, that figure makes sense if you rely on local models (which frankly aren’t that great for local coding or fast), and do it for 8 hours a day. Besides, I just checked on the latest prices, and it seems that MAX+ 395 with 128GB memory will cost you between $2799 to $3399. The Ryzen AI Halo box seems overpriced at launch, but I will be surprised if it’s even offered through retail.
MAX+ 495 already planned with more memory
AMD is also preparing a higher-memory version. The Register says a future model with Ryzen AI Max+ 495 will offer 192GB of memory. That version is expected to use AMD’s newer Ryzen AI Max 400 series platform, but its price has not been confirmed.
