NVIDIA G-SYNC Pulsar firmware 1.1.6 improves 100 to 180 FPS operation

G-SYNC Pulsar monitors get firmware update for mid-FPS operation

NVIDIA has released firmware version 1.1.6 for G-SYNC Pulsar monitors. The update improves Pulsar operation in the 100 to 180 FPS range and fixes several display and input-switching issues. The changelog was shared by Jacob Freeman and is also listed on NVIDIA’s support page.

The update is available through NVIDIA’s browser-based G-SYNC monitor update tool. NVIDIA lists support for the Acer Predator XB273U F5, AOC AGON PRO AG276QSG2, ASUS ROG STRIX Pulsar XG27AQNGV and MSI MPG 272QRF X36. The tool requires a Micro-B USB cable and a supported browser. NVIDIA says the update usually takes 5 to 10 minutes.

G-Sync Pulsar Version 1.1.6:

  • Improved G-SYNC Pulsar operation for 100 to 180 FPS range.
  • Fixed monitor white-point value in EDID to D65 white-point value.
  • Fixed input auto-switch issue.
  • Fixed cable detection issue affecting input switching when using a DP80 cable.
  • Fixed occasional frame skip issue when second input is active.

The 1.1.6 update follows firmware version 1.1.4, which focused on lower FPS behavior. That release added Pulsar optimizations, removed sharp double images below 90 FPS, fixed the monitor FPS indicator below 90 FPS and added a fixed ULMB2 60Hz strobing mode for games locked to 60Hz. Version 1.1.6 appears focused on the 100 to 180 FPS range and input handling.

What’s Pulsar?

G-SYNC Pulsar is NVIDIA’s motion clarity technology for gaming monitors. It combines variable refresh rate operation with backlight strobing, so the monitor can reduce motion blur while still syncing to the GPU output. NVIDIA says Pulsar uses variable frequency backlight strobing and can deliver over 1000Hz perceived motion clarity on supported 360Hz displays.
