Dedicated PCIe sound cards now target a smaller desktop PC audience. Motherboard audio is enough for most users, but add-in cards still serve users with higher-impedance headphones, optical audio setups or workflows that need dedicated audio hardware and low-latency driver support.

The Creative Sound Blaster AE-X was designed for users who expect more from their desktop audio. Featuring the ESS SABRE DAC architecture, high-resolution playback, discrete headphone amplification, and advanced customization options via the Creative Nexus app, it offers a significant improvement in sound fidelity, performance, and overall audio experience compared to built-in audio.

Also quite interesting to see 2026 PCIe card which only comes with PCIe 3.0.
