Steam Controller now works with HID Remapper, enabling Switch and Android support

Steam Controller gets HID Remapper support with trackpad and gyro inputs

Valve’s new Steam Controller has gained support in HID Remapper, an open-source hardware adapter used to remap USB input devices.

Developer Jacek Fedoryński confirmed that HID Remapper now works with the Steam Controller. According to his post, all controller inputs are usable, including the trackpads, touch sensors and accelerometer/gyro. The project can be used to run the controller on other devices, including Nintendo Switch, depending on the selected output configuration.

HID Remapper is not a software remapping tool. It is a configurable USB dongle that sits between the input device and the host system. The project supports remapping for mice, keyboards and other USB HID devices, and it works in hardware without requiring software to run on the target computer.

The May 20 HID Remapper release adds mapping for the Steam Controller. The release notes list standard inputs as well as additional inputs such as L4, R4, L5, R5, stick touch, grip sensors, trackpad touch, trackpad pressure, accelerometer data, gyroscope data and orientation quaternion values.

In replies, Fedoryński said the setup can also work with Android and Switch 2 . He also said PS5 support is possible through an adapter such as Brook’s FGC2, while direct console support may depend on adapter makers adding their own support later.
