GPDTool replaces MotionAssist
GPD now has an official control utility for its Windows handhelds. The new GPDTool app is designed for system tuning, overlay controls, hotkey bindings and quick access to handheld-specific settings.
The utility is listed on GPD’s official website as “GPDTool,” with support for TDP adjustment, performance monitoring and fan curve control. A GPD Store support page calls it the successor to MotionAssist, the older utility that shipped with GPD devices for years.
The app supports controller navigation and can be launched in fullscreen games. It also includes customizable keyboard and controller shortcuts, TDP adjustment, in-game performance monitoring, frame rate limiting, fan mode control, brightness and volume sliders and an on-screen keyboard.
GPDTool also adds a back button configuration menu. On supported handhelds, users can assign custom button combinations to the rear buttons. This should be useful for GPD WIN 4, WIN Mini and WIN Max owners who want device controls without relying on several separate utilities.

The current public release is GPDTool v1.49. According to the changelog, this version fixes the desktop UI auto-hide function, an external GPU display bug and the GPD BOX fan read address. Older versions such as v1.45 and v1.31 are also listed.
Growing ecosystem of Windows handheld tools
This release is also a timely one for Windows handhelds. We recently covered Winhanced , a third-party front-end for Windows gaming handhelds with TDP controls, power profiles and overlay features. GPDTool is different because it is vendor-specific and tied directly to GPD hardware.
GPD lists support for the WIN series, WIN Max series, WIN Mini series, Pocket series and BOX series. The latest GPD WIN 4 refresh with Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 is one of the devices that should benefit from a more unified tool, since GPD rates that handheld for up to 35W TDP.
