Intel Nova Lake Edge processor reportedly gets 8E+12Xe design

Edge-focused SKUs may skip P-cores.

Intel is reportedly planning a Nova Lake Edge processor with an unusual 8E+12Xe configuration. The leak comes from Golden Pig Upgrade Pack, who claims the Edge line includes a SKU with eight E-cores and 12 Xe graphics cores.

The configuration appears to skip P-cores entirely. Instead, Intel would pair a low-power CPU block with a large integrated GPU. That would be unusual for a normal client processor, but it seems more logical for edge systems and local inference boxes where CPU peak performance is not always the priority.

As for the exact architecture, this could be anything from Xe3, Xe3p to perhaps something else. The “X86 is dead&back” points towards a roadmap in relation to this leak.

Nova Lake with SR-IOV

Intel engineers have recently submitted Xe driver updates for Linux 7.2, and one patch enables SR-IOV support for Nova Lake Xe3P integrated graphics. Phoronix reports that SR-IOV is enabled for both Nova Lake-S and Nova Lake-P graphics in the open-source Xe driver. So whichever category Nova Lake Edge is, it would be part of this update.

SR-IOV allows one physical PCIe device to appear as multiple virtual devices. Basically, that means a GPU can expose virtual functions that may be assigned to virtual machines.

That makes the rumored 12 Xe iGPU more interesting. A larger integrated GPU could serve multiple virtualized workloads, such as display output, media processing, local AI inference, remote desktop sessions or industrial edge applications. In that context, the iGPU is not only there for gaming or basic display output.

Nova Lake is expected to appear by the end of this year, but the Edge variant is likely coming later (2027).
