AYANEO’s first “AI handheld” gets roasted because no one knows what AI does

I admit, I received a press release from AYANEO a few days ago, and back then I couldn’t really understand what they are annoucing. It almost semed like someone put together a press release and slapped AI just to make it sound more business oriented. Clearly not oreitned towards gamers. AYANEO has now posted a tweet on social media and needles to say fans aren’t happy.

AYANEO has announced the KONKR Pocket BLOCK, a new vertical Android gaming handheld under its KONKR sub-brand. The company calls it the “world’s first AI gaming handheld,” but the announcement does not explain what the AI part actually does.

The device was shown as part of AYANEO’s May 21 product showcase. AYANEO says Pocket BLOCK combines retro styling with a cyber-inspired design and uses “AI-driven concepts and features.” The company also says more details will be revealed later. However, AYANEO might have overestimated the excitement and ancipation from users.

Users ask what the AI does

The reaction to AYANEO’s X post was closer to a roast than normal product feedback. Users asked whether the handheld can improve performance in older games, translate in real time, run local LLMs, generate CRT filters, edit save data or provide some other practical AI function.

So far, none of that has been confirmed. AYANEO has not shared the processor, memory, price, release date or a list of AI features for Pocket BLOCK. No technical specifications were revealed and that AYANEO did not show what the AI features are.

AYANEO already has handhelds with Ryzen AI branding, including NEXT 2 with Ryzen AI Max hardware and KONKR FIT with Ryzen AI 9 HX 470. Those chips include AI-capable silicon, but Pocket BLOCK is an Android handheld and AYANEO has not tied the AI claim to any confirmed hardware feature.
