Modder releases Horizon View webcam head tracking tool for Forza Horizon

A modder has released Horizon View, a Windows app that uses a standard webcam to control the cockpit camera in Forza Horizon. The software tracks head movement and pans the in-game view as the player turns their head.

The idea is to give racing wheel users a quicker way to check mirrors or look toward corners without using a VR headset. It is not VR, since the display itself does not move with the player. The user still has to look at a fixed monitor while moving their head.

The project, which is freely available for download, was created by “jmayala” and currently targets Windows 10/11 x64. According to the GitHub page, Horizon View replaces the OpenTrack, AITrack and AutoHotKey setup with one calibrated app and a single hotkey. It uses MediaPipe Face Landmarker locally to read head pose from the webcam and extract yaw movement.

Once enabled, Horizon View holds the right mouse button and sends mouse movement to Forza’s cockpit free-look mode. Tracking is toggled with Home, while F1 opens a live-tune panel. Users can adjust sensitivity, smoothing, response curve, center deadzone and separate left/right pan strength.

The head tracking tech is not new and has been used in games for years, just not in Forza Horizon 6. TrackIR has existed for years, OpenTrack already supports several tracking inputs, and Microsoft showed Kinect-based head tracking for Forza Motorsport 4 back in 2011.

Horizon View is built around Forza cockpit free-look behavior rather than a general head-tracking output tool. It also avoids a VR headset and dedicated IR hardware, though webcam quality, lighting and latency will decide how useful it feels in practice.
