007 First Light ships without FSR 4 support on PC due to baked-in FSR implementation

007 First Light ships with FSR 3.1.5, FSR 4 override does not work

OptiScaler can reportedly work through DLSS input, but it requires config changes and still has artifacting issues.

007 First Light is launching with a wide DLSS feature set, but Radeon and Arc users are left with a weaker upscaling path. According to ComputerBase, the PC version includes NVIDIA DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, while AMD support is limited to FSR 3.1.5. Intel XeSS is not included.

This also means the game does not support FSR 4 out of the box. The bigger issue is that AMD’s driver-side FSR upgrade path does not appear to work here. ComputerBase says IO Interactive did not use the usual external FSR DLL method, but integrated FSR 3.1.5 directly into the game code. As a result, AMD Software cannot replace the FSR library with a newer version.

No upgrade to FSR 4.1 via app possible
Owners of an RX 9000 graphics card might think that the developers’ oversight isn’t so bad, since they can (as usual) improve the FSR 3.1.5 driver and upgrade to FSR 4.1. However, this isn’t actually possible, as the editorial team discovered to their own surprise: Because IO Interactive didn’t use the usual approach to implement AMD upsampling via a DLL file , but instead integrated FSR 3.1.5 directly into the game’s source code, the option of upgrading via an AMD app is unavailable. Under the hood, this is achieved by replacing the DLL files.

Ships with new Sony PSSR, aka FSR4

This is different from what we expected last week. As reported that 007 First Light would use upgraded PSSR by default on PS5 Pro, while PC and other platforms would use AMD FSR 3.1.5. At the time, this suggested RX 9000 owners could rely on AMD’s automatic FSR 4.1 upgrade path. That now appears to be blocked by the game’s FSR implementation.

I'm guessing 007: First Light needed a few more months in the oven.

Path tracing is also not available at launch. NVIDIA confirms that 007 First Light launches with DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Dynamic Multi Frame Generation, while path tracing and DLSS Ray Reconstruction are planned for a summer 2026 update.

Optiscaler works but needs an update

There is one workaround, but it is not a clean one. The OptiScaler wiki now lists 007 First Light as tested with OptiScaler 0.9.2a on Radeon RX 9070 XT. The entry says FSR 3.1 input is not usable by OptiScaler because of the game’s custom baked-in implementation. Instead, users need to hook into the DLSS path. For AMD and Intel GPUs, OptiScaler lists “Dxgi=false” to disable spoofing, and “RestoreComputeSignature=true” in OptiScaler.ini for DLSS inputs to work.

First Light is an NVIDIA title

The issue is hard to ignore. The game ships with nearly all major NVIDIA technologies and is also part of a GeForce RTX 50 series bundle, which is usually reserved for sponsored titles. This makes the FSR implementation difficult to explain. The developers baked FSR into the game code instead of using the standard DLL-based path, even though both NVIDIA and AMD rely on replaceable DLL files to let players update DLSS and FSR when newer versions become available.
