Dell Slashes XPS 13 To $599 With Intel Wildcat Lake, Undercutting The Current $1,199 Configuration By Half

With the introduction of Intel Wildcat Lake processors, it has been easier for the laptop makers to launch cheaper laptops.

Dell XPS 13 with the latest generation processors starts at $1,199, and remains an affordable option for those who cannot spend thousands of dollars. The XPS 13 series is particularly convenient for students as it offers generous specifications, starting with Core Ultra 200V processors for a $1,199 price tag, offering a 2K display, 16 GB of RAM, and 512 GB of SSD. The laptop can go as high as $1,849 if you opt for Core Ultra 7 258V paired with 32 GB RAM and 2 TB storage, but that hike in price is largely due to the higher DRAM and SSD prices.

Thankfully, users won't have to spend over $1K for a lightweight laptop like the Dell XPS 13, as the company has prepared more variants, starting at just $599. If you have been following recent reports on cheaper laptops, you might know that sub-$600 laptops are now possible due to Intel Wildcat Lake chips. The processors succeed the Alder Lake N and Twin Lake series, but offer more cores and a higher TDP range to perform calculations better.

The XPS 13 will boast the Intel Core 5 320 processor at its base configuration, but will be available with up to Core Ultra 7 355. The latter is a Panther Lake CPU, but both CPUs boast the same Cougar Cove Performance and Darkmont E/LP-E cores. The Core 5 320 uses a 2+4 core configuration and has shown excellent multi-threaded performance against Apple's mobile chips in the same category. That said, the XPS 3 will now be available for just $599 for a configuration of 8 GB RAM and 256 GB SSD storage.

Of course, users can opt for higher RAM and storage configurations, but that will be much more expensive due to the current state of the DRAM/SSD market. This still doesn't keep you away from using the latest WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0 on the XPS 13, which will offer improved bandwidth and stability in wireless connections. However, the most impressive claim is its 17-hour battery life, which is why it makes a perfect choice for users.
