AMD is expanding its Ryzen 7000 family with a new 3D V-Cache CPU, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D, that is priced at just $329.
It has become a tradition for AMD to expand its older families to the AM4 and AM5 platforms. The AM4 line is getting the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, while the AM5 platform is getting a brand new chip called the Ryzen 7 7700X3D.
The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X3D is designed specifically for gamers in mind; that's why it packs a 3D V-Cache solution in an 8-core and very affordable package. Starting with the specifications, the Ryzen 7 7700X3D is an 8-core chip with 16 threads based on the Zen 4 architecture. The specs look similar to the 7800X3D at first glance, but there are some changes.
For 7700X3D, AMD is dialing down the clocks a bit, to 4.0 GHz base and 4.5 GHz boost. The chip should carry the standard 32 MB L3 cache on the CCDs and a 64MB L3 cache stacked on top of the CCD for a total of 96 MB L3 cache. The CPU will feature a 120W TDP.

The clock speeds are 200 MHz lower for the base and 500 MHz lower for the boost clock, so we expect a nominal 5% performance hit versus the 7800X3D, but the 3D V-Cache should still maintain good gaming capabilities. You can check out our 7800X3D vs 9800X3D vs 9850X3D benchmarks here .
Although AMD has an even cheaper 3D V-Cache option in the form of the $299 Ryzen 5 7600X3D, the chip packs 6 cores. Most games today are optimized around 8-cores, and with 3D V-Cache at $329, the Red Team is offering some incredible value. The CPU is expected to hit retail shelves on 16th July, and should become a hot seller for AMD for existing AM5 users who want to drive up performance in games.
