AMD EXPO 1.2 adds Ultra Low Latency DDR5 memory mode
AMD is preparing a new extension to its EXPO memory standard called EXPO Ultra Low Latency, or EXPO ULL . The new mode is aimed at DDR5 kits for Ryzen platforms and is expected to arrive with new memory modules in June.
AMD is presenting EXPO ULL as part of the EXPO 1.2 update . The feature adds a low-latency memory mode with automatic memory overclocking and tighter tuning for supported DDR5 kits. AMD claims this can improve both average FPS and 1% low FPS in games.
AMD claims EXPO ULL delivers up to 13% higher average FPS than JEDEC DDR5 memory and up to 4% higher average FPS than current EXPO profiles. For 1% lows, AMD lists gains of up to 15% over JEDEC and 4% over current EXPO memory profiles. The company says this data is based on testing across more than 30 games with a Ryzen 7 9700X system.

EXPO ULL also targets lower memory latency with reduction of 5 to 7 ns compared with a regular DDR5-6000 kit. This follows earlier EXPO 1.2 references to new profile fields, including ULL Enable, tREFI, tRRDS, tWR and VDDP voltage.
AMD lists several memory partners for EXPO ULL kits, including G.SKILL, Kingston FURY, KLEVV, Lexar, TeamGroup, V-Color, XPG by ADATA and Origin Code. These kits should appear in June, although full motherboard and BIOS support will depend on vendors. Recent AGESA 1.3.0.1 and 1.3.0.1b releases already added more DDR5 tuning options for AM5 boards.
