AMD details FidelityFX Super Resolution for PRO, reiterates FSR 4.1 timeline for RDNA3/RDN2 Radeon GPUs

FSR for PRO targets design and visualization software

AMD has published information about FidelityFX Super Resolution for PRO, a version of its upscaling technology aimed at professional applications rather than games. The company says FSR for PRO is designed for design and visualization software. AMD lists real-time architectural rendering as one example, where higher viewport performance can help users work with complex scenes, ray tracing and heavier models.

Not for gaming (obviously)

According to AMD, FSR for PRO works by rendering the application at a lower internal resolution and then upscaling the output. The company lists four quality modes for 2560×1440 output: Ultra Quality, Quality, Balanced and Performance. In AMD’s own example using a Radeon PRO W6800 with ray tracing enabled in ACCA Edificius, performance rises from 7.0 FPS at native resolution to 24.8 FPS in Performance mode.

AMD says the technology is cross-platform, open-source and does not require dedicated graphics hardware. It supports DirectX 11, DirectX 12 and Vulkan, with integration also listed for Unreal Engine 4 and Unity. However, as with gaming FSR, the feature still requires developer integration. So I supposed it’s based on FSR1 or FSR2.

FSR 4.1 for Radeon RX 7000/RX9000 gamers is on track

AMD is also repeating its launch window for FSR Upscaling 4.1 on older Radeon GPUs. RDNA 3 support is planned for July 2026, starting with Radeon RX 7000 series graphics cards in more than 300 supported games. RDNA 2 support is planned for early 2027, which means Radeon RX 6000 series cards will also receive official FSR Upscaling 4.1 support later.
