ASUS ROG Crosshair X870E Edition 20 adds ASM58012 controller for four PCIe 4.0 x4 M.2 links
ASUS has now listed the full specifications for the ROG Crosshair X870E Edition 20. The page confirms that the board is not just a cosmetic version of the Crosshair X870E Glacial, even though both models use the AMD X870E chipset, an E-ATX form factor and a 24+2+2 power stage design.
ASMedia ASM58012 on board
The new detail is found in the storage section. ASUS lists “ASMedia ASM58012 Controllers” for four storage links: M.2_3, M.2_4, M.2_5 and DIMM.2_1 through the ROG Q-DIMM.2 card. All four are listed as PCIe 4.0 x4 links.

ASMedia announced the ASM58012 as part of its PCIe Gen4 Switch lineup at CES 2025. It was presented as a controller for servers, edge computing, NAS and industrial systems, but ASUS is now naming it directly on a high-end AM5 motherboard spec page.
The board still has one bandwidth warning. ASUS says the M.2_2 slot shares bandwidth with the two USB4 40Gbps ports. With an SSD installed in M.2_2, both the USB4 controller and the M.2 slot operate at up to x2 mode. Users can set M.2_2 to x4 in BIOS, but ASUS says this disables the USB4 ports.
Board supporst up to 9 M.2 slots
The full storage layout includes two CPU-linked M.2 slots for Ryzen 9000 and Ryzen 7000 CPUs, two PCIe 5.0 slots through the bundled ROG Hyper M.2 card, two DIMM.2 slots through ROG Q-DIMM.2, three extra onboard PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots and four SATA 6Gb/s ports. This gives the Edition 20 support for up to nine M.2 SSDs, which ASUS had already promoted earlier, but the ASM58012 listing now explains part of the layout.
ASUS has not listed pricing or a retail date. The board remains paired with the ROG Ryujin 360 Edition 20 AIO cooler, which includes an integrated CPU and VRM copper cold plate and swivel dual 6.67-inch AMOLED displays.
